Brisbane’s best slow cooked feeds

No foodie experience quite matches watching meat fall from the bone at a gentle prod from your fork. Luckily for us folks in Brisbane, there are plenty of spots to save us from spending a bundle on a slow cooker (and wasting all that precious eating time in the kitchen). With restaurants, market stalls and food trucks throughout the city spending tireless hours on their slow-cooked carnivorous concoctions, be thankful for one thing: your feeding frenzy won’t be hampered by a knife. The Charming Squire | South Brisbane Just try and walk past the windows displaying The Charming Squire’s iron bark coal pit on a cold night without grabbing a table for dinner, we dare you. There’s no resisting their free range roast pork with apple sauce – not with that crackling to drool over! 5 Boroughs | Stones Corner & Ascot | Pork baby back ribs If there’s something the US does well (other than ridiculous reality TV), it’s baby back ribs, and these are some of Brisbane’s best. Bonus, you can get them takeaway for some Netflix and swill. Jackalope Slow Foods | Roaming | Adobo brisket burger The disbelievers said burgers couldn’t get any better, but we knew the truth – brisket, pico de gallo, house made sauce and dill pickles and Pepperjack cheese makes all the difference. Be sure to get in before they sell out! The Bone Lorry | Roaming | Beef cheek burger Probably not the meal for your first date, but definitely somewhere to find true love. This food truck’s burger will leave your cheeks sticky with sauce, slaw, and BBQ mayo. BLVD Restaurant | Springfield Lakes | Ribs If meat is the question, ribs are the saucy, tender answer. And BLVD is packed with answers. Julius Pizzeria | South Brisbane | Lamb shoulder ragu Museums and parklands have nothin’ on Julius’ lamb shoulder ragu. Buffalo Bar | CBD | Beef short ribs Put that knife down. Your fork will handle these slow-smoked beauties with ease. Chop Chop Chang’s | West End | Panang of beef Holy cow! There’s no carnivorous craving this bowl of slow braised beef cheeks in panang curry sauce won’t cure. Barbecue Mafia | Roaming | Brisket cheeseburger Trust the low ‘n’ slow BBQ masters to one-up something as perfect as a cheeseburger and make it even better. But you’ll have to find them to try them! slow cooked meat mucho mexicano Mucho Mexicano | South Bank | Mother of all tacos Today is not the day to taco ‘bout our addiction to Mexican food. We’ll decide if anyone’s worthy of sharing these DIY monster plates with. Hot tip: get the brisket. Wooden Horse Restaurant & Bar | Clayfield | Beef short ribs Yeah, there’s nothing slow about these beef short ribs after they’re placed in front of us. Bucci Restaurant | Fortitude Valley | Wild boar ragu We’re totally okay with suffering the old ‘you are what you eat’ adage if we can pig out on this tender ragu all night. Park7 Diner | Graceville | Ribs We’d suggest leaving the napkin dabbing until the end of the plate of these  babies, because otherwise they’ll be stolen out from right under your nose by your date. Getta Burger | West End | Getta beef brisket burger Don’t just getta burger. Get the one with 12-hour slow cooked beef so tender it’s worthy of going back for seconds. Carolina Kitchen | Coorparoo | BBQ ribs You’ll be tempted to leave room for pie. We say forget the pie and have extra ribs. Hudson Corner | Albion | Pulled pork If you didn’t know meat comas were a thing, say hello to your introductory lesson. The pulled pork is piled halfway to the US and oh so worth the trip. Alegria Mediterranean Bistro | Milton | Beef cheek This dish of braised beef gets a bit cheeky with some Pedro Xeminez sherry, and it’s glorious. The Smoke BBQ | New Farm | Pork belly We may have looked at real estate in Memphis after a taste of this hickory-smoked, saucy number. 1889 Enoteca | Woolloongabba | Osso buco We can’t say shanks enough for the osso buco at this modern Roman spot – especially in the middle of winter. Bar Alto | New Farm | Goat shoulder When it comes to melt-in-your-mouth cuts of meat and a view just as stunning, we’ve goat your back with this spot. Be warned, this one is feed for two. Twelve Boar | Cleveland | Classic pulled pork burger Now this is a crackling feed. Get the Boar ‘n’ Beef burger with pulled pork AND beef brisket if you dare. Have a fistful of napkins handy, ‘cause all drooling bets are off this time. Words by Samantha Chariton
