When we need a bite to eat on the run or we’re just craving a sweet or savoury snack that doesn’t require the nuisance of cutlery, pastry is always our number one choice.
You can leave your protein balls and muesli bars in their packets where they belong, because freshly baked pastry and dainty many-layered sweet treats are calling your name at patisseries all over town. From Parisian luxury to no fuss Italian treats, dainty macarons, to rich brioche, we have the scoop on where you can get your fix.
Passiontree Velvet | Carindale
Inspired by the high tea houses of England, Passiontree Velvet offers edible luxury in the ‘burbs. This boutique Parisian patisserie is a welcome reprieve from shopping with delectable macarons, elegant pastries and exquisite cakes. If you can’t decide on which of their dainty delights to indulge in, sample a plethora in one of their high teas, which will treat you to bite sized morsels of creamy cakes, rich chocolate fancies and warm scones with jam and cream.
Gerbino’s Pasticceria | Ashgrove, Toowong, Kelvin Grove
This Italian gem has been a favourite amongst locals for years, serving up a mix of Aussie faves and Italian delights, with everything from the humble custard tart to delicate pastries like poggios, biscotti, and cannoli in their cabinets around town.
Jocelyn’s Provisions | Fortitude Valley
Let’s face it, no one walks out of Jocelyn’s Provisions empty handed. With an otherworldly selection of sweets and savouries, self-control is best left at the door. We can’t get enough of the salted caramel tarts, but you can also get your greedy fingers on Danish pastries, savoury pies, and even chocolate coated marshmallow hearts.
Dolci Sapori | Clayfield
Taken straight from the streets of Italy, this no fuss cafe offers a mixture of pasticcini, deliciously flaky pastries and irresistible cakes. Only a quick detour off the main road, you will not be disappointed and the bombolone will leave you #fangirling.
Chouquette | New Farm
Whisking you instantly from Brisbane to the cobblestoned streets of Paris, Chouquette is a crowd favourite for their traditional cooking methods and authentic selection. Created by French chefs using ingredients of the highest quality, the selection in the boulangerie (that’s bakery in layman’s terms) is to die for. Oui oui!
Flour & Chocolate | Morningside
If it’s layers upon layers of freshly baked (and occasionally deep-fried) pastry you’re after, Flour & Chocolate is where you need to go. One look at their racks of almond croissants, salted caramel gonuts, Danish pastries and gooey donuts and you’ll be in heaven. Probably a few kilos heavier too, but there’ll be no judgement here – we’re right there with you.
Crust & Company Artisan Baking | Newmarket
A bakery that understands that the crust is just as important as its contents, Crust & Co. has us a drooling over their goodies. Between the fruit crumble on their sweet brioche muffins, the buttery crust to their pear and chocolate frangipane tart and the cookie-like exterior to their berry sables, we’re happy skipping the filling entirely.
Oxford Street Bakery | Bulimba
East siders guard their secret foodie havens religiously, and Oxford Street Bakery is one such hidden gem. The things they do with brioche – oh my. Then there’s the tarts, the pies, the croissants – breakfast, lunch and dessert (maybe dinner too), sorted!
Belle Epoque Patisserie | Fortitude Valley
For a real French patisserie experience, relax with a coffee and a flaky pastry on Belle Epoque’s sidewalk café and people watch as you munch on fresh baguettes and sweet treats. Dinner party coming up? Take home one of their tarts for dessert – they are more art than pastry.
Sunday mornings at Brisbane patisseries are looking up!
