Whether you’re a seasoned spice veteran, trying to break into the biryani big leagues, lookin’ for a curry in a hurry or want to take your sweet time, there’s an Indian menu with your name on it somewhere in this city. Read on to discover our guide to the best Indian restaurants in Brisbane.

Brisbane’s Best Indian Restaurants You Need To Try

PUNJABI PALACE| WEST END

Something you need to know about Punjabi Palace: if you do not leave feeling so full you consider never eating again, you have not truly eaten at Punjabi Palace. Start by heaping your plate with onion bhaji pakora, samosas and papadums (papa-YUMS), and then move onto the main event, kormas, madras, biryani and vindaloo.

KLAY OVEN| TENERIFFE

You may think you have tried every curry there is, but when you’re faced with The Klay Oven’s extensive menu, you’ll think again. Do yourself a flavour and try something new – while you might not be able to pronounce ‘bhuna ghoshat’ or ‘achaari,’ your taste buds will thank you. Fans of fusion food should definitely pull up a chair, as the cheeky chefs have also created Indian pizzas! Butter chicken and tandoori lamb on a pizza? Definitely a crust-try.

HERITIJ | CBD

Taking the Indian foods we all know and love and really stepping them up a notch, Heritij is the newest offering from Michelin-starred chef Manjunath Mural. Blending Indian methods with Aussie and pan-Asian flavours, Heritij features a colourful contemporary setting and jaw-dropping dishes like the Mangalorean lobster with half WA rock lobster, lemon wuinoa, and coconut gassi.

PADDINGTON CURRY HOUSE| PADDINGTON

With both Indian and Nepalese dishes, Paddington Curry House might have a basic name, but the flavours of its dishes are anything but. We can’t get enough of the murg methi chaman with chicken and fenugreek, and would do terrible things to be able to eat the Hyderabadi dum biryani everyday.

TAJ MAHAL| NEW FARM

Host to the Indian Cricket Team since 2004 and the perfect pre-movies pit stop, Taj Mahal is the jewel of New Farm. Super delicious, super affordable and SUPER BYO, they have more varieties of rogan josh, tikka masala, and vindaloo than you can poke a stick at. These guys also like to dish up western favourites with an exciting Indian twist – their tandoori chicken wings are sure to get you in a flap.

IT’S MIRCHI| PADDINGTON & MILTON

An Indian restaurant that serves up lunch and dinner delights with naan of the guilt? Sign us up (read: fill our bellies please)! Giving a gluten, nut, sugar, MSG, and dairy-free twist to butter chicken and a whole lot besides, It’s Mirchi is definitely a must-try for all those with particular dietary needs.

INDIAN KITCHEN| WEST END

Whether you’re beginning your West End pub crawl or stopping for a mid-sesh samosa, Indian Kitchen has your back. With some of the cheapest, most flavourful food on Vulture St, get three veggie curries with rice for less than a pint! Add a naan and a lassi, and kick back to the sweet Bollywood tunes.

TAJ BENGAL | ASHGROVE

A classic family-run affair, Taj Bengal is a staple in the western suburbs. Their traditional menu, focusing on high-quality ingredients, is a greatest-hits, with crispy onion and spinach pakoras, spicy beef madras, and dessert fave gulab jamun- warm dumplings in sugar syrup.

MIRCHH MASALA| WOOLLOONGABBA

Hard to pronounce, easy to love – this cheap, cheeky Indian restaurant is one of our absolute faves. Specialising in veggie food, choose from traditional dishes including tadka dahl, bhaji pav and thali – or get stuck into fresh, fusion options with paneer kolhapuri sandwiches.

We’re not trying to butter chicken you up, but we think we’ve done a pretty spicy job.
