Make your break memorable with these great value gourmet lunches

Sorry, sandwich.

Whether it’s a prix fixe or just a bloody good deal, there are few better ways to turn your day around than sitting down to a delicious dejeuner!

To remove the guesswork and point you in the right direction, we’ve gathered some of Brisbane’s best value lunch specials for you to dine your way through (just remember you’re due back at the office afterwards)…

The Pearl | Woolloongabba

This chic spot set off the main road in the Gabba is a stalwart of the Brisbane scene for a reason: quality food, a gorgeous heritage dining room, and old-school service.

From Tuesdays to Fridays, you can sit down (with at least one pal) to two seasonal courses and a glass of the good stuff for just $35—and we’re not just talking a salad and sanga. Current options for the shared entrée of fava bean dip, Mount Zero olives, caramelised onions and beurre noisette with sourdough, followed by the likes of twice-cooked pork belly on pak choy with a black vinegar reduction or goats cheese ravioli with sauteed mushrooms, brown butter and hazelnuts for main.

Wash it all down with a glass of either the Kooyong Estate Massale pinot noir or Brokenwood chardonnay, and your day’s definitely looking up. Book your seat and learn more on The Pearl’s website.

85 Miskin Street | Toowong

This little spot in the heart of Toowong dishes up a seriously great value lunch tasting menu at $45 (available Wednesdays-Saturdays), packed with the incredible flavours and delicate plating for which chef/owner Brent Farrell is known.

Sample stunners like citrus-cured salmon with red grape, dill crème fraiche, citrus sorbet and stout wafer before a main of slow-cooked lamb shoulder with smoked goats chevre, burnt eggplant, barley and a soy glaze.

e’cco bistro | Newstead

One of Brisbane’s longest-standing and inarguably best restaurants, e’cco bistro offers a fantastic value three-course lunch menu on Fridays for just $59.

Putting up your choice of entree, main and dessert (or cheese), the lunch special menu changes regularly and could include the likes of quail with apple compote, miso, pickled daikon and cashews, pan-fried barramundi with wombok, broccolini, pickled fennel and jus, and rhubarb and raspberry cheesecake with meringue, sable and rhubarb sorbet—a treat!

Montrachet | Bowen Hills

For those more bougie lunch occasions, Montrachet’s prix fixe menus at $72 for two courses and $88 for three courses are guaranteed to deliver.

Make the middle of the day memorable with French classics like French onion soup with gruyere toast, bouillabaisse and crème brûlée, and wonder why you don’t eat lunch like this every day…

The Boundary Hotel | West End

We hear you… a pub is hardly gourmet, but the food at the Boundary is just THAT good (and at $14 for the weekly lunch special, who could complain!?). Available Mondays-Thursdays, this bad boy special devised by chef Andrew Musk (who made the move earlier in the year from Howard Smith Wharves) has been southern fried chicken rolls, mushroom and artichoke pizzas, or meatballs in sugo with toasted sourdough… yum!

Alchemy | CBD

Having revised their menu structure earlier in 2020, Alchemy is now all about the multi-course meal, offering up two courses for lunch for $67, or three for $87.

Their fresh Italian-inspired menu features tasty plates like braised lamb ribs, with salsa verde and yoghurt labneh, and squid ink spaghetti with octopus, calamari, garlic, chilli, and grated bottarga.

Happy Boy | Fortitude Valley

Sure, it might be casual, but the fare at Happy Boy is far from average! Their lunch specials (which go for just $14 Tuesday-Friday) include juicy BBQ meats (duck, pork, or cha siu-style chicken) on rice, or dishes like eggplant with roast pork belly and preserved vegetables.

These gourmet lunch specials? Great value. Having a better lunch than everyone else in the office? Priceless.
