Brisbane-made spirits to spice up your next cocktail

We’re all about buying small and supporting local, right down to the gin in our martini, the vodka in our mule and the rum in our… rum and Coke (sssh!).

While we might be christened the City of Breweries, we also have our fair share of world-class distilleries bottling up something a little harder. Read on for which Brissie-made spirits you should consider adding to your liquor cabinet!

Winston Quinn (Gin, RTDs)

Distilled in the heart of the Valley, Winston Quinn’s five signature gins and just-launched RTDs of gin and soda have a huge place in our heart! We adore the herbal and verdant Slim Crop, while the vibrant and naturally coloured Pink Fit is the perfect quirky addition to any booze cabinet! Browse their range and order online here, or find your nearest in a bottle-o here.

Idle Hour (Vodka)

The newest addition to Brissie’s distillery scene, Idle Hour Vodka is all about challenging the “flavourless” perception of lower-grade vodkas. Available filtered and unfiltered, this rye-based vodka has sweet and spicy notes perfect for blending in your favourite cocktails. Buy directly from them, or check out stockists here.

Beenleigh Artisan Distillers (Rum, liqueurs, RTDs)

Did you know Australia’s oldest operating distillery is nestled in Eagleby? Using molasses from the country’s only remaining family-owned sugar mill (and others across Queensland), their products include copper pot-distilled rum, aged rums, white rum, spiced rum and even rum liqueur and RTDs mixed with cola or ginger and lime! Shop directly from the distillery online, or visit a stockist.

Milton Rum Distillery (Rum, liqueurs)

XXXX and a sugarcane champagne distillery in the very same suburb? It’s almost TOO Queensland… A rebirth of a distillery that first opened in the area back in the late-1800s, these folks bottle up some booze with really interesting stories; the Dirty Bird aperitif is made with fruit and herb waste from local bars and restaurants! Spanish-inspired white and dark rums are also on offer, as well as the decadent Coffee Storm liqueur. Head to their website to buy online or browse stockists.

Brisbane Distillery (Gin, vodka, rhum)

Brewing up the good stuff from grain to glass, Brisbane Distillery takes everything you know about spirits and makes them taste…  local! Their range of gins using Aussie botanicals like pepperberry, Kakadu plum and ironbark are award-winning, while their rhum (no, not rum) follows French Caribbean AOC rules and is aged in ex-Pedro Ximenez barrels. Head here to browse and purchase directly.

Finesse Spirits (Gin, vodka)

This team takes distilling seriously, with every small detail mastered to deliver some incredibly refined end products! The Gold Standard classic gin and dry gin’s botanicals are steeped our in a pure grain spirit and distilled in a copper pot still, while the vodka draws natural sweetness from wheat and has hints of honey and vanilla. Browse the range and buy online here, or see stockists here.

Now that’s something worth drinking about!
