Word on the street: foodie news

Always. Hungry.

On the agenda this week: Affordable gourmet lunches. The return of an old friend. A tasty new friend. Strap in for a yummy one, Brissie!

Not only is Howard Smith Wharves a jaw-dropping riverfront dining destination… It’s now officially the hottest spot in Brisbane to have a weekday lunch date. For the month of February, eateries across the wharves are serving up $25 lunch specials from Monday to Friday, with amazing deals like saganaki garides (prawns, feta and tomato) with village salad, fresh bread and a glass of vino at Greca, a wood-fired pizza and a schooner at Felons, a pasta and a spritz at Ciao Papi, and more! Head here to check out the full offer, and get booked in at your lunch spot of choice!

Tomorrow–Wednesday, February 3–will see the opening of OTTO Brisbane’s new South Bank location! Taking over the iconic spot formerly home to Stokehouse Q, OTTO will consist of three major arms: OTTO Ristorante for modern Italian fine dining, OTTO Osteria for al fresco sipping and nibbles, and OTTO Events for your next riverfront function.

Late last week we welcomed South Austin into the Brisbane foodie community, and we have a feeling it’ll soon be a staple… Taking over Mt Gravatt’s Cenzo’s Cafe and Bar on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, South Austin is the newest baby from the Barbecue Mafia team, and encapsulates the best bites of the Texan capital. Think low ‘n’ slow barbecued meats on soft tortillas for a taco experience like no other.

The beloved Brisbane City Markets are returning in 2021, with the first market of the year set to pop up at Reddacliff Place (very top of Queen Street) on Wednesday, February 3 from 8 am to 6 pm, and every Wednesday thereafter. Browse fresh fruit and veg, artisan provisions, trawler-direct seafood and more as you figure out what to get for lunch from the range of global food vendors. We’re leaning towards a big old German sausage, HBU?

We’re going to stop talking and start eating.
