Our picks: where to find the best pastries in Brisbane

A fondness for the not-so-humble pastry easily becomes something of a lifestyle...

We’re talking about the crumbs on your outfit, crumbs in your bag, crumbs on your computer… For those who’ve chosen the pastry way of life, read on for our picks of the best pastries in Brisbane.

Lune Croissanterie | South Brisbane

The world-renowned patisserie touched down in Brisbane in 2021, bringing their incredible croissants, danishes and monthly specials to the inner southside. With a temperature-controlled production room and the weight of being declared “possibly the best croissants in the world” by the New York Times, these flaky bad boys absolutely deserve the top spot on this list. Best try the monthly special for something different!

Danny’s Bread | Teneriffe

You know his dinner rolls, now let us remind you of Danny’s pastries! There are berry-studded danishes, crunchy palmiers and old-school eclairs on the lineup. Our suggestion for your first Danny’s experience? A custard-filled lunette for something a little bit different!

MICA Brasserie | Various

…and honourable mention to MICA’s sister venue, King Street Bakery, too! For classic French-style pastries, these spots (helmed by the team behind Montrachet) can’t be beat. Expect all the usual suspects, as well as cruffins, dainty tarts, macarons and canelés. Go on an empty stomach is what we’re saying…

Darvella Patisserie | Bulimba

By the team behind Pawpaw and Mons Thai, Darvella is a celebration of all things indulgent! From glammed-up croissant specials to banging sausage rolls, this sweet spot is taking you from breakfast to lunch and back out to afternoon tea in style.

Flour & Chocolate | Various

With locations in Morningside, Northgate and Redcliffe, you really have no excuse for NOT queueing up at Flour & Chocolate at least once… While their brownies are 100% droolworthy, their pastries including croissants, danishes and palmiers take the cake. Visit a Saturday for their in-demand choccie and coconut croissant!

Sprout Artisan Bakery | James Street

A long-term favourite of baked-goods-loving Brisbanites, Sprout sprung open the doors to a permanent location to much celebration! A real labour of love, Sprout focuses on organic ingredients, utilises a closed-loop recycling system, and bakes up some incredible creations. Take home a couple of their savoury danishes and tarts to convert even the stickiest sweet tooth!

Superthing | West End

This pink-hued spot in West End is well worth a visit for the aesthetic alone but, even better, the pastries hold up to first impressions! With a range of classics and dressed-up delights like strawberry and cream croissants, savoury monkey bread and morning buns, there’s guaranteed to be something for everyone (but it’s gotta be the sticky cinnamon scroll for us)!

Crust & Co | Newmarket

What was once a local secret is now known city-wide for top-notch pastries! Situated in a historic brick bakehouse (charming!), Crust really covers the realm of baked goods from breads to cakes and sweet and savoury Viennoisserie (what we’re all here for). Don’t leave without a cinnamon and sugar-dusted sacristain.

Jocelyn’s Provisions | Various

CBD workers rejoiced when Jocelyn’s announced their fourth location on Eagle Street, and for good reason! As well as an array of delicious baked goods, the pastry selection is well worth the walk, with croissants, tarts, palmiers and pies donning the shelves. Treat yo’self to one of their loaded palmiers for a well-deserved sugar high.

Pastry party, anyone?
