Brisbane bars with board games

After many years of after work drinks (and lunchtime drinks, and weekend drinks) we feel like a pawn in the game of post-work tipples and eats. But, we have finally found something that will make you say ‘check mate’ to any other plans you’ve got: bars with board games. So, instead of passing on that night out, pass go (we can’t guarantee $200) and head down to these boredom busting board game bars.
The Defiant Duck | CBD
The Defiant Duck will climb all those snakes and ladders to the top of your to do list. Their menu, boasting such treats as hotdogs, tacos and brownies, and their wide ranging drinks list are certainly the king and queen of the Brisbane bar scene. Just make sure to hold tight to those mojitos when someone loses the game and tosses the board.
The Wickham | Fortitude Valley
With their long wooden tables to accommodate you, The Wickham is the place to go for an epic game of Pictionary, fuelled by ice cold drinks and cheesy pizzas. In between hilariously bad sketches, you can hit the bar for champagne cocktails topped with cotton candy – you won’t get those at game night at home!
Saccharomyces Beer Café | South Brisbane
This craft beer café offers a wide range of beers, wines, and spirits that can be paired with a delicious variety of succulent burgers and comfort food. Sometimes you just need some smoked cheddar mac ‘n’ cheese with a beer after a hard week of work and salad. Life must have balance – a lesson we learned after our Jenga tower crashed. Okay, we may have given it a little push so we had time for another drink.
Embassy Bar | CBD
Embassy is the place to turn ‘Happy Hour’ into ‘Ecstatic Hour’ after you finally beat your best mate in a ‘friendly’ game of scrabble. We have to warn you though, you might get distracted from that triple word score when you come across a different kind of threesome – a beer, pork belly popcorn, and build your own fries.
Escobar | New Farm
Escobar is one of the best places to kick back with a jug of sangria or Pimm’s, then get ready to kick butt with your Connect Four skills. Start the night out with oven roasted squid and a glass of white, followed by braised beef cheeks and a glass of red. Bloody Mary! That sounds like a good time!
Padre | Woolloongabba
This Woolloongabba spot is a casual dive bar that will have you diving into a night of high spirits paired with some strong spirits. Grab a drink from the saloon-like bar then grab your piece for a great round of Monopoly. We suggest the car because you’re definitely going to need an Uber after a night this good! Head down to these great Brisbane bars for a drink, a feed, and a good time. And when someone asks you ‘glass or jug’, tell them to go get a Cluedo. By Kate Stevens Image by Judit Losh
