Brisbane Airport takes off with first-class bites

Whilst we know there’s nothing wrong with a muffin and a coffee before boarding a flight, sometimes you just want to have the option of something a little extra. And thankfully Brisbane Airport has heard the (boarding) call of cuisine.

A three-course-meal before heading south to Sydney? Some craft beer and canapes before jetting to Melbourne? And is that a bug slider I can snack on upon my return? The Brisbane Airport has truly favoured our taste buds. Hope your seatbelts are fastened for this ride of relish…

As a full table service restaurant, The Aviary is one of the airport’s more high-end establishments. Here, awaiting passengers can indulge in seasonal dishes, with the Mediterranean Breakfast Bowl and King George Whiting on Rustic Ratatouille covering you from breakfast and beyond. Of course, those wanting something a little more on the snack side of things can order their crispy gnocchi bites or chicken souvlaki, with their extended list of wine, beer, cocktails and non-alcoholic beverages awaiting as perfect accompaniment. Mimosas, anyone?

The good times don’t stop at The Aviary, with The Newstead Brewing Co. now operating at the airport following its original Newstead location closure. You can sip on their legendary suds as you chow down on a beer-battered bug slider or a serving of buttermilk pancakes.

With such tasty options and exotic flavours – the spicy char sui ramen and gyoza from Nippon Ramen and pork belly bao from Graze Grill & Bar are also some of our faves – you may not even feel like leaving the terminal to discover global delicacies. But if you do, make sure to stop by New Farm Confectionery for a chocolate-dipped salted caramel lollipop, or treat yourself to a deep-fried churro from Mad Mex, where your journey only becomes that much sweeter. You’re welcome in advance.
