ANZAC Day is one of the very, very few days of the year you’ll catch us getting up before sunrise. While you’re up early attending the dawn service, the march or other ANZAC Day events, take advantage of the extra time in your day by heading out to enjoy all the goings-on around Brisbane on April 25th.
Riverbar & Kitchen | CBD
Come in, spinner! Riverbar & Kitchen is back to its former glory with ANZAC celebrations that are set to be bigger than ever. Feast your eyes on riverside views while you dig into pig from the spit, and polish your pennies for a round of two-up. Open from 8am to 10pm, this is the perfect spot to grab an ice-cold beer (all in the name of charity) and settle in for a cruisy day.
Historic Vehicles | Howard Smith Wharves
Take a trip back in time at Howard Smith Wharves and experience the stories of our veterans right here in Brissy. Roam the lawns and discover the history behind the vehicles, and then be tempted by a crisp sip over at Felons Brewing Co. just next door. Their sausage sizzle and two-up on the lawn also kicks off at 1pm, so let’s hope for a bright and sunny forecast.
1000 Blooms Installation | West Village, West End
If you’re not done marching, take a stroll over to West Village to see the 1000 Blooms art installation. As the symbol for remembrance and hope, the iconic Flanders poppy pops up every year at West Village with handmade blossoms transforming Mollison Park into a field of flowers. Check out the blooms until May 1.
The Paddo | Paddington
While The Paddo is an institution in itself, watching the ANZAC Day NRL clash is also up there. Get amongst the action and catch the games on the big screen – while it’s no Suncorp Stadium, The Paddo’s atmosphere is not to be underestimated. The first match kicks off at 4pm, don’t make a dummy-pass and miss out.
The Prince Consort | Fortitude Valley
For the all important post-service feed, The Prince Consort has you covered with a dedicated menu of classics that’ll leave you wanting more. Think Cumberland bangers and mash, Kiwi burgers with fried egg, and crispy crumbed steak – alongside two-up and live music in the Garden Bar, of course. These guys are open from 12pm, so go raise a glass (or two) for our service men and women.
Six Acres Restaurant | King St, Bowen Hills
If you’re over King St’s way on ANZAC Day, Six Acres Restaurant is here to save the day. They’ll be dishing up soothing coffees and delightful brekkies from 6:30am, or make the most of the night with dinner from their decadent a la carte menu.
Iris Rooftop | Fortitude Valley
Planning on going back to bed after the dawn service? Just hit Iris Rooftop once you finally rouse yourself and tuck into Spanish fare all night long. You won’t find a more picture-perfect spot to sip sangria and sample plate after plate of tapas and flavourful mains. Iris is open from 4pm to 12am, so pace yourself!
Bonus: where to get your ANZAC bikkies
Kalang Sweets & Treats
Who can go past an ANZAC biscuit? We certainly can’t – especially when brownies are also on the table. Kalang Sweets & Treats has been baking hard to deliver two specials: the native sweetie box with choc coffee wattleseed brownies and the ANZAC bikkie box filled with soft, chunky delights. Send Elise a Facebook message to order your box of goodness!
