That’s the mantra (with a little G&G creative license) of Barko & Co., the latest health-orientated resident of West Village’s The Garden Pantry!
If the name sounds familiar, that’s because Barko & Co. is a family-run affair! Alongside a sister café of the same name in Teneriffe, Barko & Co. is the brainchild of Raex Murillo, a foodie who is famous for his eco-friendly practices and sustainability ethos, and his family.
For those looking for a snack on the go, the mindful treats section of Barko & Co.’s menu has you covered with Coffee Fruit Bars, made with the by-product of coffee production by Raex’s sister Vanessa.
Make fast friends with the Cocoa & Nuts (like a brownie, but better) or pair your regular coffee order with the Espresso & Peanut Butter snack for an extra kick.
Besides sourcing ingredients from local farmers and suppliers, Barko & Co. boasts organic coffee that supports micro-producers in Colombia, imported directly by their parent company, Mr Coffees. Alongside a menu full of classic breakfast staples, lunch and dinner staples are available along with a selection of cocktails in the evenings.
While ‘barco’ means boat in Spanish, it’s foodie for bountiful bowls of nutritious deliciousness, with the menu filled with everything from acai bowls to smoothie bowls and substantial lunch bowls.
Ranking high on our list of favourites is the quintessential Barko Bowl consisting of quinoa, radish, mesclun, sweet potato, avocado, blistered tomato, asparagus and lentils, as well as the fresh grilled prawn pasta topped with chilli, garlic, and rocket dressed in marinara sauce!
Joining the Barko and Amazonian acai bowls are irresistibly cool smoothies and juices, including the Hangover Cure: a stunning apple, orange, grapefruit, ginger, turmeric, and cayenne pepper mix (just in time for summer, no?).
Intrigued by everything this sustainable eatery has to offer?
Then reduce, reuse, and cycle into The Garden Pantry today! Barko & Co is open daily from 7 am to 9:30 pm.
Keeping the G&G up to date with tasty tidbits requires a lot of lattes (and espresso martinis), so we occasionally need to give out some sponsored love. Rest assured that we only work with businesses that we think you’ll love.
