We love nothing more than a new restaurant to round out what has been a dang delicious year, so prepare your bodies because SK Steak & Oyster has officially opened at The Calile!
Following in the food-steps of Hellenika and The Lobby Bar, SK Steak & Oyster is the third restaurant to open at The Calile and joins Ada Lane newbies sAme sAme and Beaux Rumble to make this one of Brisbane’s most mouth-watering laneways.
Founded by Simon Gloftis and Theo Kampolis (from that little place called Hellenika), and Head Chef Kelvin Andrews, the trio have combined forces yet again and wanted to bring diners a twist on the classic grille, with certain nods to the US without being a typically American steakhouse.
Let’s get down to the good stuff. SK Steak & Oyster is built around two main things; beef and seafood, meaning that what they do, they do exceptionally well. Grilling is the basis for many of the menu items, with lightly smoky flavours ensuring the carefully curated local ingredients pack a tasty punch. Any steak lover will be overjoyed with the proteins on offer, with everything from a prime rib to eye fillet, all with marble scores of three and above, to a hefty 1kg sirloin on the bone if you’re up for the challenge.
The rest of the menu favours the beef of the sea, with a John Dory schnitzel, Patagonian toothfish, seafood cocktails, grilled lobsters, sumptuous seafood platters when you just can’t decide and, of course, plenty of oysters. Make sure to pair your meal with their signature wedge salad and definitely more than one item from their potato menu.
Loose your mind over the nine different potato dishes to choose from, including classic French fries, jacket potatoes and potato salad, to the more adventurous like Moreton Bay bug mash, or go all out with the potato fondant with crab, roasted bug tail and trout caviar.
When it comes to tipples, the drinks menu definitely has a champagne focus (no complaints here) and has been carefully considered to compliment and not overpower the fare. Start your meal with a tasty cocktail where you’ll find yourselves falling in love with the many martinis on offer!
Following in the same minimalistic vibe that has become synonymous with The Calile precinct, SK Steak & Oyster’s interior is very Palm Springs, with polished concrete softened by booth seating and plenty of linen, making it an elegant dining hotspot without taking itself too seriously.
Whether it’s a few casual oysters and glass of champers at the stunning curved bar, or a night filled with fresh seafood, exceptional beef and golden taters, SK Steak & Oyster is adding another level of wowza to this already bustling foodie hotspot.
