Brisbane’s best hotdogs

The hotdog will forever remain a cult classic of the culinary kind. Over the years they’ve evolved from a hand held snack for which the greatest decision was what sauce combination to use (the tomato vs BBQ sauce saga continues) to a blank canvas to be experimented on with drool-inducing blends of ingredients and flavours served up by kransky connoisseurs and bun buffs alike. So without further ado, here’s a few of the best hot dogs in Brisbane that will fill that empty space in your hand with more than just snag and sauce. Archive | West End For the ultimate hotdog fix, you best be keeping your Thursday nights free for Hops ‘n’ Dawgs at Archive! A weekly event dishin’ up big American dawgs with equally big American beer to wash it all down, it’ll have you chowing down on one-of-a-kind hotdogs like chicken and chorizo and the chilli cheese dog. There’s even a vegetarian chickpea and sweet potato falafel dog! G-Doggz | Fortitude Valley Boasting a menu completely dedicated to the hotdog, one trip here will leave you a lifelong member of the hotdog fan club (we might have made that up, but someone should start one!). Feast upon the likes of a pork, jalapeno and cheese sausage topped with chilli sauce and chopped tomatoes, appropriately labelled the Devil Dogg thanks to its fiery nature. Tippler’s Tap | Newstead This top dog finds inspiration from the cool stylings of the Chicago food scene. Prepare for an all-beef dog served with onion, gherkin relish, tomato, pickle cucumber, American mustard, a dash of pepper and a sprinkle of celery salt. We tip our hat to that. NKB Express | Indooroopilly If you’re searching for a classic hotdog that sends you swinging straight back to the 1940s, NKB Express is your one stop answer. Choose between a bacon and sauerkraut topped German kransky or the more traditional ketchup and mustard and down it in one of NKB Expresses cosy diner booths. hotdogs brisbane snag stand Snag Stand | Brisbane CBD If you’re feeling the blues because you need some gluten-free chews in order to hop on the hotdog bandwagon, Snag Stand is your saviour. Featuring all natural, hand-crafted sausages that are lean, free of gluten and artificial flavours and popped on a gluten-free bun or even a lettuce leaf (hello paleo dog!), these hotdogs really are for everyone. Southern Attitude | Bulimba This is definitely one for the lovers of a pick and pair feed. Choose between a wood smoked bratwurst, spicy debrioiner or cheese kransky dog and match it to classic NY toppings, spicy Chicago flavours or Southern style guacamole and apple cider slaw. All perfect with a side of fried dill pickles. Lefty’s Old Time Music Hall | Caxton Street Can we get a yee-hah for the coolest (and only) rockabilly music bar on Caxton Street who also cooks up a mean chilli cheese dog. Pair it with with one of their famous apple and whiskeys and you’ll understand why it’s just so right to hang at Lefty’s. Red Hook | Brisbane CBD If you are committed to finding a top dog contender, be sure to hit up this New York inspired street food venue. Kransky sausage, BBQ onion, American pickle and crispy fried shallot just scream Central Park in the spring. Special mention also has to go to the Underground Food Project’s chicken, tarragon and fennel hot dog that we sampled at last month’s Small Batch, but you’ll have to find out when their next pop us is next to get your hands on it!
