Suburban eats with a side of million dollar views? We’re in! You’ll feel disappointed with any other breakfast in Brisbane after dining at Paddington’s new Chapter IV café, where you can chow down on mouth-watering eats while you take in one of the best views in the city.
Taking over the old Queenslander at 180 Latrobe Terrace, where Dirty South and Hampton Living both had residencies in the past, the new café is venue number four from Alyssa Phadungkiat (hence the intriguing name). Joining Chai Thai, Bolan Thai and My Little Health in her portfolio of foodie spots, it has the promise to be one of Paddington’s new favourite eateries, with daytime meals (all day breakfast – halleluiah!) and evening tapas on the menu, as well as being BYO. Plus a cute kiddies corner and some tasty milkshakes that make us want to get in touch with our inner child so we can join the fun.
Along with a cabinet full of cakes and sweet treats, all baked in house of course, you can tuck into a scrumptious breakfast and lunch menu with daily specials making use of fresh ingredients. For those who love the simple things in life, roasted mushrooms on sourdough with feta and cherry tomatoes will sort out your morning hanger, but if it’s something a little more interesting you need, there’s plenty of options. Eggs benny with pulled pork? Sweet potato and zucchini fritters? Or maybe a sweet stack of maple waffles with Nutella, fresh berries and hazelnut crunch? And before you know it you’re left doing eeny meeny miny moe to decide.
For lunch, there’s something to satisfy everyone, from the vegetarian haloumi stack with semi-dried tomatoes, grilled eggplant and zucchini and basil pesto, to the Wagyu steak sandwich with spicy tomato chutney and a side of beer battered chips (because chips and a steak sanger go together like bread and butter).
As of July 2015, they’re also doing a casual evening meals seven nights a week. Finally, somewhere open for dinner on a Monday! Turns out, that breathtaking view is even better at night, and is pretty good paired with sharable tapas like cheesy arancini, crisp calamari and Southern style fried chicken. There’s even a kid-friendly section with dinosaur nuggets and chips. Bonus, it’s BYO, so you can grab a bottle of wine at the bottle shop around the corner, throw the kids in fenced area and proceed to thoroughly enjoy yourself.
