What's on in Brisbane this week: August 19-30

thisweekinfood_19-30-2Wednesday 19 Taste the delectable drops of Moorabool Valley’s The Farr Winery as you eat your way through five courses of exquisite ARIA fare, like chorizo crisp with kingfish tartare, grilled pork cheek, and cabot cheddar with apple, honey and rosemary lavosh. Your ticket to the food coma of a lifetime can be arranged for $195 by contacting ARIA. Thursday 20 If you’re in a bit of a food rut by the time Thursday rolls around, spark yourself up with a dining and wining experience at The Foraging Quail. They’re offering a special four course menu for just $45 on Wednesday and Thursday nights, with options for both meat eaters and vegetarians. If you haven’t tried Foraging Quail before, now’s the time to do it, with dishes like saltbush lamb belly and eight (eight!) textures of chocolate dessert. You can even a splash out and get matched wines for just a little extra, at $80 each. Friday 21 If you’ve got a sweet tooth and love any excuse to have morning tea, register with Breast Ever Brunch to eat cake and drink tea for charity. Gather together your workmates, your friends or your family, and ask them to bring along sweet treats and a donation on the day. All the money raised will be going towards breast cancer research and the Mater chicks in pink, who provide vital help for women diagnosed with breast cancer. Saturday 22 With uninterrupted views of the Valley and CBD, Eleven Rooftop Bar could just be your new go-to bar for breakfast, lunch, dinner and drinks. And with plenty of spirits available, an ample cocktail offering and diverse wine list, Eleven’s view isn’t even the best thing about the bar! Just make sure your lads are dressed to impress – it’s a little bit fancy. Sunday 23 Cured meats, fine cheeses, preserves, pastries, baked goods and cooking demonstrations? Sounds like a Sunday well spent to us! We think a Sunday of buying delightful delicacies from the Westfield Chermside Gourmet Markets will even bring a whole week of foodie joy. Gaze, graze and indulge your senses over the range of cured meats, fine cheeses, preserves, pastries, baked goods and more. Or ignite your curiosity in a complimentary cooking demonstration, gardening or barista workshop. Monday 24 There’s only one way to properly celebrate any national food day, and that’s to spend the entire week hunting down and eating the best that you can find. Waffles being one of our favourite breakfast treats, we were only too happy to start researching early so that we could make the most of National Waffle Day! So tuck into Brisbane’s best waffles to celebrate the birth of the waffle iron (seriously, look it up). Tuesday 25 Feeling the pinch because your tax return wasn’t quite as much as you hoped – and you accidentally pre-spent your anticipated windfall? The Pineapple Hotel can make sure your weekday dinners are more appetizing than tuna on toast, especially on $10 pizza Tuesday. You can even be gourmet with pizzas like the Viva Italia, with prosciutto, bocconcini and rocket, or get your veggies in with the I’m a Vego, piled with char grilled pumpkin, zucchini, roast capsicum and basil pesto. Just don’t go spending all your leftover cash on drinks! Wednesday 26 Chef Giacomo Favato is returning to Artie & Mai’s kitchen once more to work his culinary magic (trust us it’s magic – have you tried their desserts?) for their second evening Supper Club. A one-of-a-kind four course dinner that makes use of locally sourced and even some homegrown produce, the dinner will be paired with beer or wine and live music for $75. Contact Artie & Mai to book. Thursday 27 Indulge in exquisite French cuisine matched with a selection of Stella Bella Margaret Rivers wines at Lutece’s next Meet the Maker dinner. You’ll dine on 5 courses of Lyon inspired fare, like truffle braised chicken breast and donuts with apple compote, and sip on 6 vintages from Stella Bella, as winemaker Michael Kane walks you through the intricacies of each. Tickets are $98 and can be booked by contacting Lutece. Friday 28 Our favourite food truck pit stop is back! Eats & Beats is once again bringing a convoy of over 40 of our favourite Brisbane food trucks to Logan, this time to the picturesque Berrinba Wetlands Park, a location that showcases the natural beauty in the City of Logan. But with an abundance of tasty burgers, sticky wings and all things delicious on offer, you might be too distracted to notice the view! Saturday 29 Always dreamt of heading off to South America but never had the chance? Well the Brisbane Latin Market is your chance to sample everything delicious about the continent without the jet lag.  Taking over The Boundary Hotel carpark, this family friendly event is packed with plenty of authentic South American food stalls like Latin Deli, Arepa House and Vira Lata, cooking up spicy eats like empanadas, tamales and other exotic dishes. Once you’re fed, you can sit back and enjoy live latin bands and DJs all day long. Sunday 30 The Downey Park Food Trucks are coming back for yet another Sunday of drool-worthy meals on wheels to wind down the weekend. Get along to Downey Park in Windsor from 2-5pm for tasty eats from ten of the best food trucks from around town. Pack your appetites and a picnic blanket and be sure to get there nice and early – it’s bound to be a sell out event!
