We might have been a little pre-occupied celebrating the winners of our own Golden Fork Awards this week, but the annual Australian Gourmet Traveller Restaurant awards were announced on Wednesday, with a pretty big win for Brisbane.
Can you guess which bar beat drinking spots all over the country to win the coveted title of Bar of the Year? Nope, not a hipster Melbourne drinking den, or a Sydney laneway bar, but our very own The Gresham.
For once, Brisbane’s growing bar and nightlife scene hasn’t gone unnoticed, with the CBD bar nabbing the acclaim for it’s old-world charm, seriously impressive whiskey list and creative cocktails from award-winning bartenders.
A few other Brisbane venues got a nod in The Top 100 restaurants, including Esquire, Urbane, Aria, Gerard’s Bistro (whose Head Chef Ben Williamson took our Brisbane’s best chef in the Golden Fork Awards, just quietly) and Stokehouse.
We think The Gresham’s win is just another sign that Brisbane’s food and booze scene is ready to join the big leagues.
Time to celebrate with a drink, right?
