If you’re ready to swing right on into the festive season with an epic amount of food and booze, boy have we found the event for you! The Royal Croquet Club is taking over South Bank for the better part of November, bringing not just your Nanna’s favourite backyard game but a whole lot of eats, drinks, artsy displays, performances and live music.
Single handedly making croquet cool again, the Royal Croquet Club is a garden party come arts festival that will transform South Bank’s Cultural Forecourt into an adventure-filled, riverside wonderland from November 6-22. It doesn’t matter whether you prefer exchanging croquet tips over Pimms in the sunshine or downing doughnuts and getting down to DJs, this brilliant event will have you grinning like a Cheshire Cat.
If you’re anything like us, after an hour or so of swinging the mallet you’ll be hankering for something delicious to satisfy your palate. Thankfully, there will be plenty of eats fit for a King, with a line up of some of Brisbane’s best foodie spots dishing up the goods.
Because it’s always a good idea to have dessert first, La Macelleria will be there with their soul-satisfying gelato, including some exclusive flavours churned out just for the event. The newest huns on the steamed bun scene, Bao Down Now, will make an appearance, while Mighty Mighty have the meat lovers covered with a brisket station.
Forever taking burgers to a new level, Miss Kay’s and their stacked creations will be in attendance for the carb-loading types, and we’ve even heard rumours about a possible donut burger. If you prefer something a little less extreme, The Defiant Duck’s American fare is just as delicious, if a little less WTF.
Bringing the ultimate festival food to the party, Sin Vida and their Mexican eats have us locking the whole three week event into our diary, but for those who’ve been thinking about doughnuts since we mentioned the word three paragraphs ago, The Doughnut Bar will have you going nuts.
With grassy spots to chill out on and more bars than you could shake a mallet at, this festival is just what the silly season ordered.
Open 4pm-midnight Monday to Friday and 12pm-midnight on weekends, entry is free from Sunday to Thursday (so more dosh to spend on food, yeah?), and $5 on Friday and Saturday nights. Find out more about Royal Croquet Club here.
