The Gold Coast's best Sunday sessions

Since sleeping late on Sundays is practically a mandatory requirement (seriously – we’re looking at you, early-morning exercisers), ditching the brunch outings in favour of a late arvo Sunday sesh is a perfectly acceptable trade to make, especially if you’re spending a relaxing weekend at the beach. So whether you’re a Gold Coast local or just a weekend day tripper, stretch out your weekend a little longer with our top Gold Coast Sunday sessions. Garden Kitchen & Bar | Broadbeach Nothing says Sunday like sipping a flirty cocktail in a lush garden bar, but if the outdoors are driving you inside, you’ll find the best of both worlds at Jupiters’ newest spot! With a totally tropical feel and even a sunny outdoor deck for taking in some rays, the bright and airy Garden Kitchen & Bar will have you feeling a world away from the Monday you know is coming. Offering live music every Sunday to prolong those weekend vibes even more, it’s just the place to sit back and relax with an ice cold beer and a few plates of Szechuan calamari. Helm Bar | Surfers Paradise What’s better than a cold beer on a Sunday? How ‘bout a cold beer and live sport? Helm Bar’s flat screen TVs stream live rugby, AFL, cricket, basketball, golf, surfing, tennis, and more! With that much entertainment, you’ve got time to check out Helm’s fresh seafood and smokehouse meats. Of course, no Sunday game is complete without a beer, but never fear: Helm stocks a bunch of local and international brews. Or why not celebrate your teams win with their signature margarita? Finders Keepers | Burleigh Heads Doors open at 2pm for Finders Keepers super Sunday sessions – plenty of time to get that sleep in in! While the live music starts at 2.30, it’s good to get in early (hey – $5 Coronas are a good deal!). You can get your tapas on with Finders Keepers’ coconut and lime ceviche scallops, hot churros (uh… can we please have these every Sunday?) and FKC, which is Finders Keepers own style of fried chicken. Regarding boozy delights, this spot is famous for its spiked lemonade and espresso martinis. gold coast sunday sessions justin lane Justin Lane Rooftop | Burleigh Heads One word: pizza. Well, okay, there’s more to Justin Lane than pizza, but our eyes see what they choose to see. In all seriousness, this beach-themed rooftop sports gorgeous views to Burleigh Beach that will make you forget all about Monday. The rooftop menu includes plenty of antipasto delights, but also offers rooftop patrons access to their full menu on Sundays from 12-4pm. Sip a cocktail (or beer), enjoy the view and do not miss out on the pizza. Their pork and fennel meatball, chili, caramelized onion and provolone pizza has us drooling at our desks at the thought. Vintage Velvet | Surfers Paradise Not only is Vintage Velvet a gorgeously vintage historical site, it’s also the Gold Coast’s largest outdoor cocktail and dining garden, so stretch out your legs and get your lazing mode on! With live music in the courtyard from 2pm, cheap Coronas and tasty nibbles (we could chow down on their BBQ wings all day long), you’ll want Sunday to extend all the way to at least Wednesday. Nobby’s Arc | Nobby Beach For more slices of goodness, Nobby’s Arc sells $1 pizza slices on Sundays from 3-5pm. $1 PIZZA. The live music starts at 8.30pm and runs until late, but there’s no reason not to get in early for some pizza, tap beer specials, and share plates (we don’t really want to share the sticky hoisin pork belly though). After all, you’ll need a couple hours to make room for their homemade sticky date pudding. Komune Beach Club | Coolangatta If you want to spend the afternoon surrounded by gorgeous babes and muscled bros, this is the place to go. Splash your Sunday away by the pool and nibble on grilled salmon tacos with chipotle mayo while leafing through their 8 page(!) ‘bar bible.’ Included in this glorious testament are classic beach cocktails like mai tais and piña coladas, but we can’t neglect to mention the salted caramel espresso martini (be still our hearts). Don’t worry about the food baby – we never do. There you have it – plenty of spots to wash away the stress of city traffic, train timetables, and office stress! Words by Samantha Chariton
