Hamilton’s Racecourse road is proving to be more than just a Brisbane institution for the desperate housewives of Ascot, with the addition of Petrichor & Co to the ever expanding food scene. Don’t be fooled by the artisan dinnerware and industrial decor – these guys are far from hipster cafe amateurs, serving up a modern take of our brunch classics.
Their all day breakfast menu reads like foodie poetry with something to please any appetite. For those who love the simple things in life, toast comes with a choice of organic spelt sourdough, gluten free, Turkish or fruit loaf, served with house made peanut butter or whipped vanilla butter with house made berry jam. Seeking something decadent? Get it French style with caramel popcorn and chocolate soil, oh my!
It wouldn’t be a Brisbane cafe without avocado smash, and theirs is served with basil chimichurri, pea mash, feta and dukkah no less. Likewise for the Aussie brunch staple of sweet corn fritters, and this stack comes with avocado, tomato relish and your difficult choice of bacon or haloumi (let’s face it – you’ll get both). Thyme and garlic mushrooms also make a welcome appearance, but with the added benefits of smoked capsicum and almond purée, kale chips and sourdough.
Recovering from a big night out? Start your day with a bang with their signature huevos rancheros. The chorizo, chilli labna and Colombian tomato sauce are sure to get your motor running!
Our pick for a cold winter morning was the soul-warming power seed and almond milk porridge with toasted nuts, poached pears and berries. It’s the breakfast your guts will love you for, ticking all the right boxes for being healthy, filling and not-too-sweet, as well as being Instagram picture perfect! If you’re prone to choosing heavier menu options, try this on for size – you’ll feel less guilty about indulging at dinner later on!
Lunch from 11:30 to 2:30 is a no less tasty affair, with a selection of sandwiches and salads from the cabinet as well as small menu. Try their black bean and quinoa burger, pulled organic beef brisket with chipotle aioli slaw, warm lentil and vegetable salad with chicken or haloumi, or let them choose for you with the risotto or soup of the day. You may just want to snuggle up in bed rather than returning to the office after the likes of sweet potato and lentil soup or a chorizo and tomato risotto though!
Petrichor & Co is a flavoursome find that’s well worth the venture to 33 Racecourse Road, Hamilton even if it involves dodging a few pram-wielding, poodle-walking nannies in the process!
