Brisbane’s booziest desserts

There comes a point during every dinner when you have to make a crucial strategic decision. You’ve had your entrée, you’ve had your main, you’ve probably even stolen a few mouthfuls from the plates of your friends. But now, with limited room available in your totally cute but suddenly tight feeling dinner outfit, do you finish things off with dessert or a post-dinner tipple? Well say goodbye to having to choose between the two, because we’ve rounded up a whole bunch of boozy desserts Brisbane wide that let you combine the two into one glorious after-dinner treat. Paddington Deli & Epicerie | Paddington The Deli’s bistro food gets a little cheeky with their dessert menu! Cap off the night with a serve of their brandy chocolate mousse with chocolate soil and raspberry sorbet. The Charming Squire | South Bank  You’d expect the restaurant at a venue named for a craft beer to have plenty of brews available, but The Charming Squire goes one step further and turns them into desserts. Their dark chocolate fondant with raspberries, crumble, and a generous scoop of Jack of Spades porter ice cream is the stuff dreams are made of. Cowch | South Bank Home of the Drunken Sundae and the best Irish coffee in town, it’s clear that Cowch should be at the top of your list for liqueur-spiked desserts. Try the honey and rum toasted bananas, or pour a shot of Baileys over your sticky date pudding and make the moo-st of your after dinner treat. Popolo | South Bank Potted and planted with sprigs of basil and some edible blooms, Popolo’s tiramisu is as good to look at as it is to eat. No matter how many plates of pumpkin and ricotta ravioli, gnocchi and risotto we’ve stuffed ourselves with, there’s always room for layers of sweet biscuits, espresso, marsala and custard. Canvas | Woolloongabba We’re a little bit in love with Canvas’ Affogato di Canvas dessert. You’ll understand when you get your first spoonful of espresso and salted caramel ice cream with cinnamon liqueur, biscotti and house-made caramel. 5Bs_burgers_web-135 Boroughs Stones Corner | Stones Corner Exclusive to 5B’s Stones Corner location is an all-new range of brilliantly boozy milkshakes. Get your milk mustache on for flavours like peanut butter with butterscotch liqueur, salted caramel with Maker’s Mark, and Hershey’s cookies and cream with Frangelico. Alchemy | CBD To see a dessert magic show, check out Alchemy’s affogato (with your liquor of choice) and watch the salted caramel chocolate tartlets and vanilla ice cream disappear before your very eyes – into your waiting mouth. There must be some real magic going on in the kitchen to create a dessert so good! Escobar | New Farm Got a hankering for something warm, sweet and chock full of booze? On a drizzly night, Escobar’s sticky date pudding with vanilla ice cream and whiskey butterscotch sauce is slurring your name. Mr Edward’s Alehouse & Kitchen | Brisbane We’ll take 12 serves of Mr Edward’s Strawberry Mousse 12, thanks. With Frangelico cream cheese, tear drop meringue and strawberry ribbons, it’s pretty much guaranteed we’ll keep eating these babies til we’re 12 sheets to the wind. Woolly Mammoth Alehouse | Fortitude Valley We’re sure cavepeople needed an after-work hit of something sweet just as much as we do, which is why we’re not arguing against Woolly Mammoth’s Porter Sundae: even the Stone Age would have been bearable with this concoction of ice cream, porter chocolate sauce, chantilly cream and pretzel and peanut crumble. On second thoughts, maybe we’ll skip dinner altogether and go straight to dessert. Brisbane, are you with us? Words by Ranyhyn Akui
