South Bank’s new spot for ramen and bao buns

They might be Junk in name, but this new South Bank eatery sure isn’t Junk in nature, with a line up of hawker-style Asian fare on the menu that will have you drooling when they open their doors on Friday (February 17). Taking over a spot on Little Grey Street, the Sunshine Coast favourite is well and truly on the move, with a Melbourne location also on the way – but obviously it’s the new Brisbane location that has us already making dinner plans. Take a seat amongst the vibrant décor and you’ll soon be tucking into everything from crispy fried gunpowder chicken ribs to fragrant beef massaman curry. With most dishes designed to be shared, you’ll want to take a big group – more so you can order one of everything than to be social. Order up plates and plates of Korean fried chicken, soft shell crab steamed baos, crispy Peking duck spring rolls and gangnam fries piled with house made kimchi, nacho cheese sauce and nori. If you’d prefer to have something all to yourself, slurp up a bowl of ramen with pork, noodles and a slow cooked egg. Best of all, nothing on the menu here is going to break the bank – in fact, you could get a seriously decent feed for a mere $10. You know your eyes are going to be bigger than your wallet though, so be warned – and try to stop yourself from ordering more than you could ever possibly eat. Alongside the food menu is short drinks list of beer, wine and spirits, and if you’re in for a really big night you can attempt a Junk Beer Tower with a couple of pals. If it all sounds like your new fave hangout, you’ll find Junk at Shop 11 & 12 Little Grey Street in South Bank, open 7 days a week for lunch and dinner. Words by Ranyhyn Akui
