The beloved Brisbane Serbian Festival is taking over Dutton Park for a glorious afternoon of epic eats, wildly energetic dancing, live tunes, and legendary hospitality.
When: Sunday, 30 August 2026, from 10:30am
Where: Dutton Park State School Oval, 112 Annerley Rd, Dutton Park QLD 4102
Entry: Free
Organised by the crew at the Serbian Orthodox Community in Woolloongabba, this free-entry community fiesta is all about sharing the authentic sights, sounds, and scents of Serbia.
Serbian Food to Try
Do yourself a favour and skip breakfast, because when it comes time to say Hajde da jedemo! (“Let’s eat!”), the spread on offer is utterly top-tier:
- Ćevapi: moreish, hand-rolled grilled skinless sausages bursting with smoky goodness.
- Sarma: comfort food defined…tender cabbage rolls packed with spiced meat and rice.
- Pljeskavice: mouth-watering, grilled Serbian-style spiced patties that put standard burgers to shame
- Palačinke: scrumptious, delicate crepes slathered with sweet fillings
- Roast Meats: sizzling, slow-roasted perfection straight off the spit
To wash down the feast, grab a crisp Jelen Beer flown in directly from Serbia, or take a cheeky sip of Rakija, the famously potent traditional fruit brandy. Softies, juices, and water are handy for the kiddos, and every stall accepts both cash and card.
Cultural Performances and Entertainment
The main stage will be absolutely buzzing from start to finish:
- Folklore Dancing: Prepare to be dazzled by Morava Brisbane, Queensland’s premier Serbian folklore troupe with a proud 40-year local history, stepping out in full costume alongside regional dance groups.
- Live Music & The Kolo: Lively bands will be cranking out spirited Balkan anthems all day. Don’t just sit there… jump right into the Kolo, an infectious, join-in-hands circle dance where everyone is welcome.
- Man vs Ćevap: The ultimate test of stamina! Cheer on the absolute legends braving the famous annual ćevapi eating showdown, where the contestant who downs the most sausages within the ticking clock grabs ultimate glory.
Family-Friendly Activities
Bringing the whole crew? There’s heaps to keep the young ones amused:
- Kids’ Zone: Full of action with carnival rides, playful games, and craft stations.
- Cultural Experiences: Pick up a few phrases at a Serbian language workshop or wander through beautiful traditional art showcases.
- Marketplace: Score handcrafted treasures and quirky gifts at the bustling market stalls set up right next to the food hub.
