From 3 to 6 October 2025, the Sunshine Coast Hinterland will transform into a hub of bold sounds and cultural connection. Just a short drive from Brisbane, the heritage villages of Palmwoods and Mapleton set the scene for a weekend of intimate concerts, artistic encounters, and eclectic performances that stretch well beyond traditional classical programming.
This year’s line-up features 56 artists across 14 events and 11 genres, from chamber and world music to blues, folk, and experimental sounds. Highlights include:
Véronique Serret with didgeridoo master William Barton on Opening Night
Acclaimed classical artists Ensemble Q, harpist Emily Granger, and violinist Courtenay Cleary
A world premiere from Queensland composer Nicole Murphy, performed in the Appalachian Spring Gala by the Festival Chamber Orchestra
Blues on the Range with State of Appalachia and Hat Fitz & Cara
World music from Gosti
Immersive experiences including sound baths, morning meditations, and cultural storytelling
What sets Long Listen apart is the atmosphere. Concerts spill into community halls and local pubs, morning teas are served from hall kitchens before the music begins, and artists mingle with audiences in the festival lounge. It’s music as connection – adventurous, eclectic, and warmly communal.
Festival founder and artistic director Louise King describes it as “a space for discovery and community – bringing adventurous music-making into intimate venues and celebrating connection through art and storytelling.”
For Brisbanites, it’s an easy long-weekend road trip with the added bonus of mountain air, rainforest walks, and a program that balances world-class artistry with the laid-back hospitality of the Sunshine Coast hinterland.
Tickets start from $15, with weekend passes available, making it both an affordable and unforgettable way to spend the October long weekend.
