Aunty is Coming to Town: The Tassis Group’s Modern-Asian Restaurant set to open in Fortitude Valley

Aunty is coming to town!

Get ready, Brisbane – your new favourite Aunty is pulling up a seat at the table, and she’s bringing serious flavour. In late 2025, The Tassis Group, the culinary minds behind local icons like Fatcow, Opa, Longwang, Stilts and Rich + Rare will unveil Aunty, a bold and sophisticated Modern-Asian dining destination set to shake up the Fortitude Valley scene.

Landing in the prestigious James Street precinct at 11 Wandoo Street (the former home of City Winery and Campos Coffee), Aunty is more than just a restaurant, it’s a reimagining of the traditional Asian dining experience, fusing deep cultural roots with contemporary culinary finesse.

At the helm of the kitchen is Chef Salvatore de Ponte, a culinary heavyweight with over 15 years of global experience, whose Italian training and passion for Cantonese flavours make for a truly unique pairing. Think refined Asian classics elevated to banquet-level brilliance, dim sum done right, premium Peking duck, fresh seafood and seasonal produce, all plated with the kind of precision that makes your phone camera twitch.

The interiors? Expect moody, intimate vibes, inspired by traditional Cantonese tea houses, designed by Clui and creative studio Allo. It’s set to be a space where heritage and modernity meet and where your new go-to for yum cha might just become your new Friday night staple.

So, comb your hair and clear your schedule. Aunty’s coming to town – and she’s about to become the Valley’s newest icon.
