Where to drink wine in Byron Bay

Byron's wine scene is elegant, exciting, and a little funky... just like the locals.

Whether you’re all for sediment and the kiss of Brettanomyces or prefer a crisp classic, Byron Bay’s wine scene is well worth exploring.

Oma Food and Wine

The latest addition to the Three Blue Ducks family, Oma is all about beachy flavours and top-notch vino. Stocking over 50 natural wines from Australia, New Zealand, Italy, France and (arguably the heartland of natural wine) Georgia, Oma’s mod fit-out, menu featuring the likes of stracciatella with peaches and chilli or steak with elephant garlic and anchovies, and buzzing central location makes it a must-visit for the wine inclined.

Supernatural

This bistro/wine bar’s elegant space is guaranteed to impress, with a concise and enticing food offering underpinned by an offbeat wine list. From home-grown drops to Italy, France, Spain and Turkey’s must-try Gelveri wines, Supernatural’s list isn’t too huge to be overwhelming, but contains plenty of heavy-hitters to work your way through. Pair your choice of drop with scallop ceviche with apple, fennel and preserved lemon, or maybe turmeric cuttlefish with papaya salad. Big yum.

Barrio

A minimal-cool spot in the Habitat lifestyle village, Barrio welcomes you with ethically focused food, a comfortable indoor-outdoor space, and a banging wine list. Settle in to a sprawling share-style menu featuring kingfish pastirma, grilled meats and zingy marinated veggies to heap onto flatbread and pair it all with a bottle (or a few) from internationally-sourced orange and pink, white and red wines, plus a moderate selection of sparkling, from funky nats to classic champagne, worth celebrating.

Luna Wine Store

It might not be a bar, as such, but Luna is a must-visit for wine-lovers passing through the Bay. Stocked with over 300 natural wines made by Aussie and international producers, this paradise of natty delicacies makes it dangerously easy to stock up on quality vino, and they even host free tastings on Friday afternoons—cheers to that!

Loft

It doesn’t get much more Byron than the breezy balconies and ocean glimpses at Loft! With a host of drops from around the world featuring a solid selection of organic and biodynamic labels, it’s the perfect spot to enjoy lunch or dinner with a glass in hand. Our pairing recommendation? The fried school prawns with yuzu mayo, a glass of Provence rosé and a stroll along the beach.

Byron’s not all acai bowls and pub grub…
