Oh, you thought Morning After was ‘grammable? Enter Ping Pong, the new mod-Thai joint by Morning After’s owner Yianni Passaris and chef Khanittha “Bowyo” Muangsong.
While Morning After experimented with Thai-influenced dinners in the past, the Gasworks Plaza site that Ping Pong’s splashed with a bold pink interior emerged as the perfect spot following the success of Yolk at the site, also helmed by Yianni.
The menu (described as “not cheap nor high end, but perfectly in the middle”) features bright and punchy flavours influenced by Bowyo’s Thai roots, presented in modern ways. Think grilled Moreton Bay bugs in chu chee sauce, red curry with crispy pieces of pork belly, and an extensive list of snacks including betel leaf morsels, a panko chicken sanga with sriracha mayo, and porn and prawn dumplings.
Having undertaken a visit back to Thailand ahead of developing the menu, Bowyo said, “I love going back home. The colours, the flavours… It’s multi-sensory. And that’s what I want to deliver at Ping Pong.”
The vibrant interior (with a “secret” jungle setting featuring Yianni’s signature cup seating, a ping pong-inspired light installation, and statement neons) simply begs for a drink to accompany, with plenty of natural wines, cocktails and rotating boozy slushies on the list.
