Pawpaw owner Giorgina Venzin shares her fave winter warmers

Brissie completely skipped autumn this year, and we couldn’t be happier!

Owner of iconic hotspots Pawpaw in Woolloongabba, Pawpaw Asian Kitchen in Balmoral, and (together with brother Danny) Mons Thai in Camp Hill, we asked Giorgina Venzin to share her picks for winter dining and (just like her menus), she didn’t disappoint.

“It’s hard to beat our signature massaman curry [which is available at all stores]. The rich, creamy curry is packed with fragrant spices, and the slow-cooked beef cheek just falls apart—it’s really the perfect winter dish!”

With plenty of warming curries packing punchy flavours available at all venues, picks like the vegetarian roti canai (available at both Paw Paw venues) come in at the top of Giorgina’s list when it comes to warming up in the cooler months.

Her winter picks don’t end on the plate though: “Our cold brew espresso martini at Pawpaw features our own cold brew from Monocle Coffee ( which Giorgina also owns, as well as Sundays Coffee House in Rocklea) together with vodka and Kahlua, and is a rich treat for before or after a meal… or just on its own!”

It wouldn’t be winter dining without red wine, so Giorgina says the “impressive” entirely Aussie wine list (plus one Thai curveball) at Mons Thai is a must-sip. Her pick to pair with a fragrant curry? “The Chaffey Bros Dufte Punkt field blend is full of flavour, and has enough texture to stand up next to our flavourful curries.”

Warming curries, funky sips, and endless flavours to explore? Sounds like a perfect winter of dining to us!

Keeping The G&G up to date with tasty tidbits requires a lot of lattes and espresso martinis, so we occasionally collaborate with local businesses we love, like this one.
