Brisbane’s tastiest spots to watch live sport

Release your inner sporty spice.

Sport is back, baby! The NRL has been playing for a few rounds now, and the AFL kicks off again tonight to the delight of footy fans across the country. While it’s not quite sport as we know it, it’s still a fantastic opportunity to round up a (small) gang, head to one of Brisbane’s many tasty viewing spots, and live your best foodie life.

The Pineapple Hotel | Kangaroo Point

While the likelihood of getting into the Gabba to watch the Lions play is pretty slim at the moment, the Piney is far and away the next best thing. It’s got taps and taps of the good stuff, a dedicated steakhouse and plenty of screens showing your favourite sports. This Brisbane stalwart has had a few punters through its doors in its 150-year history… And it somehow gets better every time.

The Defiant Duck | Newstead

Whether you say “parmi” or “parma,” or you’re a Collingwood or Cronulla supporter; you’re more than welcome to pull up a chair and enjoy the array of live sports streamed across The Defiant Duck. And, while we know it’s standard to have a beer while watching football, we strongly suggest changing your game plan and working your way through their cocktail list…

Port Office Hotel | CBD

The Port Office Hotel has been a mainstay of Brisbane’s pub scene since well before our time. With an award-winning dining room, a generous bar (perfect for knocking a few back at), as well as screens around the venue, you’ll certainly be right in the action here!

Pig ‘N’ Whistle | Various Locations

No matter where you live in Brisbane, you’re bound to have a Pig ‘N’ Whistle nearby you. Brisbane’s self-declared “home of sport,” the Pig never misses a game, showing each and every mark, kick, tackle, goal, and try across multiple screens daily. They also boast an impressive menu of British eats and are currently offering an “NRL live and loud” package for footy lovers–see more here.

Story Bridge Hotel | Kangaroo Point

Top notch pub grub, an ice-cold pint, and some live sport. Does it get any better than this?

Famous for its Grand Final street parties and array of eats ranging from The Shelter Bar to Deery’s Restaurant, The Story Bridge Hotel is the perfect place to enjoy a steak while you watch your team win, lose or draw.

Buffalo Bar | CBD

This inner-city spot is known both as a sport-lover’s paradise, and for its elevated American fare. There’s nothing like sport to bring out the Neanderthal in you, so prepare to dig into a rack of BBQ glazed pork ribs, Angus beef brisket, or ½ a smoked jerk chicken. Bone appetite.

The Plough Inn | South Bank

If you were to rank Brisbane’s most iconic pubs based on location, the Plough Inn would come up trumps every dang time. Not only is this beauty positioned smack in the middle of South Bank, it has a spectacular beer garden that always has the footy playing, live music blasting, and a wickedly good kitchen pumping out pub classics.

Winghaus | CBD

What do you get when you combine an American-style sports bar and a Bavarian beer hall?  The CBD’s hottest new wing joint is set to reopen next Wednesday, June 17 to the cheers of crowds (us included). Screening every sport under the sun live and loud across the venue, the only thing missing is a bib for those wangs!

May the best team win, and may no one leave hungry.
