We’re living in seriously tough times at the moment, and the hospitality industry is one that is feeling the brunt of tight regulations and restrictions. Adapting to the situation as well as it can, Brisbane’s remarkable hospitality community has recently welcomed some ridiculously tasty newcomers, and here’s your run-down!
Shawarma King
Offering Lebanese lovers a taste of Beirut, West Village’s brand new eatery is bringing the flavour, and heaps of it. Joining Garden Pantry neighbours Mr Bunz and Cheeky Poke, Shawarma King is serving up traditional Lebanese fare for breaky, lunch, and dinner, with classics like falafel, hummus, shish tawook, and kafta, and a range of delicious mezze. We most definitely want a piece of this Middle Eastern hotspot!
Hoo Ha Coffee Bar
A Fish Lane stalwart, Hoo Ha Coffee Bar announced in November that it was moving slightly down the lane to a lighter, brighter space at 109 Melbourne St. Recently reopening in this fresh spot, Hoo Ha hardly had an easy start! Opening exclusively through a large service window for takeaway coffee and a few treats, Hoo Ha is keeping South Brisbanites well-caffeinated during these tough times, and we hear there are exciting things to come in the future!
Agnes
We were excited for MONTHS at the prospect of Agnes—a fresh new restaurant that was set to open in March with a menu of inventive woodfired eats crafted by Ben Williamson… until this global pandemic threw a mad spanner in the works. The team at Agnes were ready to roll until they were told they couldn’t, so they got inventive, and the outcome was delicious.
Agnes Street Bakery Pop-Up & Bottle Shop is open from 7 am to 5 pm, Wednesday through Sunday, selling wood-fired artisan breads, savoury treats, and decadent pastries alongside an epic range of booze. Talk about making the best of a bad situation…
Superthing Bakery
Coming onto the scene in late March, Superthing almost instantly became Brisbane’s most Instagrammable bakery. Dressed to the nines in all pink, this spot is also baking up some insanely yummy treats. From croissants to bread, danishes, cookies and more, we can feel Superthing becoming a super iconic spot pretty damn quickly.
We recently collaborated with Superthing to bring you a guide to perfecting your at-home loaves. Have a read here.
Mama Taco
Opening their doors right before the pandemic hit, Mama Taco has not let anything break its stride. Inspired by traditional mezcalerias and taquerias of Mexico, Mama Taco’s menu boasts some bold flavours, with tacos, larger plates, sides, and desserts, as well as some unique take-home cocktails.
To accompany your tacos al pastor u carnitas, grab Mama’s margarita with reposado tequila, jalapeno and coconut 1800 tequila, agave, aloe, and citrus with a dehydrated lime garnish, and let the fiesta begin!
Remember to give the new kids plenty of love, Brissy!
