Honestly, we love a converted warehouse, and The Matriarch is Brisbane’s newest conversion which is serving everything from breakfast to tapas in spectacularly luxurious fashion.
Drawing inspo from all around the globe, enter through the gorg alfresco terrace, which is a little slice of Paris, and push past the handcrafted Indian doors to find a lush oasis complete with mature olive trees, velvet seating galore and schmancy chandeliers (jaw drops guaranteed).
The Matriarch is open for lunch and dinner daily, with a kicking tapas menu to cover you for everything in between. Get snacking on duck spring rolls, tempura-battered cauliflower bites or the spicy chicken skewers. If you’re looking for something a bit more substantial then raise the pinkie with a fresh lobster roll, sweet potato nachos or perhaps the pulled pork pancakes with plum sauce is more your vibe.
The cocktail menu is an extensive one, with everything from remixed classics to fresh and fruity and the oh so boozy, with inventive names which are half the fun. Our pick is the Take mai tai off which is a tropical spin on the classic mai tai combining pineapple rum, Montenegro, lemon, watermelon, orgeat and cracked pepper.
If you’re looking to spice up your weekend breakfast game, then The Matriarch is a must. With classics like avo on fresh-baked sourdough to the more international like Vietnamese shakshouka, you just can’t look past the breaky boards, though, which you can go at alone or with your brunch buddy. With a little bit of everything, match it with one of their fresh juices like the matcha mojito with matcha, lime, mint and OJ.
As if you needed another reason to visit, rumour has it there is even a roaming dessert cart with fresh-baked cakes and high tea is coming soon so, yeah, The Matriarch is perfect for literally any occasion.
