If you’re looking for a new spot to wet your lips – and a road trip – we’ve got some perfect boozy day trip inspo for you, just a stones-throw from Brisbane.
GOLD COAST BREWERY CRAWL
If it’s a few frothies you’re chasing, then the GC has got you covered. Our sun-kissed cousins are getting really good at cooking up a crafty, and we mean really good!
Currumbin is a great starting point, at the stomping ground of Balter Brewing. You’ve probably seen their beers in your local bottle-o but nothing compares to their XPA on tap, immersed in the atmosphere of their tap house, and the smell of fresh hops.
Once you’ve turned on your tasted buds, hop in the car and head up to Burleigh Heads where our next two options lie. Both Burleigh Brewing Co. and Black Hops offer a range of award-winning craft beers worthy of a day trip. Grab a tasting paddle at each, and let the malty goodness and mellow tunes take you away.
Mount Tamborine Wine Time
If you’re more of a grape juice kinda guy or gal, then Mount Tamborine is calling. Set in the cool Gold Coast hinterland, Mount Tamborine offers a unique range of wineries worth checking out.
With no time to waste, get yourself straight to the Witches Falls Winery cellar door that has an awesome team on board to help ease you into a stressful day of brie eating and shiraz sipping. With the option to enjoy a picnic in the vineyards, it’s the only logical way to line your stomach before a day of sun and sauv blanc.
Once the blue cheese and water crackers have been taken care of, head along to The Cedar Creek Estate for something more substantial. Oh and more wine!
If you’re still going after this, you’re not only a champion, but probably looking for a change of scenery? Don’t fret – with a breathtaking view of the hinterlands and a log fire burning in the cooler months, Mason Wines is a top spot to finish off your day away from Brissy.
Beenleigh Artisan Distillers
Calling rum lovers far and wide! Leave the Bundy at home and head for Beenleigh Artisan Distillers for some good ol’ fashioned rum fun. Whether you like it light, white, spiced or old, they have it all and it’s amazing!

SUNSHINE COAST HINTERLAND
If Mount Tamborine isn’t your scene or you just hate the Gold Coast traffic, why not head north? From one hinterland to another, Montville’s the bomb for a boozy day out!
Brouhaha Brewery is all we need to say. These dudes know beer. With eight beers on offer, you’ll have to make your way through a couple of paddles to get the taste of them all, but you definitely won’t regret it.
Like your booze with a burn? Castle Glen is a castle surrounded by vineyards, and they are pumping out some awesome spirits! Don’t worry, you won’t need a Trojan Horse to get through their drawbridge – everyone’s welcome.
Montville also produces some world-class wines that should not be taken for granted. Flame Hill Vineyard ethically and sustainably produces some of the best wine in the region, with an amazing restaurant if you happen to be looking to fill up on real food and not just wine.
If you have a weekend free and have been looking for fresh turf to try out new beers, wine, or the hard stuff, take your pick and get out of here! Just bring us back a bottle.
