There’s no better feeling than coming home, especially when dinner is ready and waiting for you. Us white picket fence folk have it pretty sweet, and the best part of living in the ‘burbs is having easy access to restaurants that give you the exact same feeling we just daydreamed about.
We’ve put together a series of lists featuring Brisbane’s best restaurants, however here’s a wholesome little list dedicated to the best neighbourhood restaurants, where everybody knows your name.
Corella | Woolloongabba
An ode to Woolloongabba’s local waterhole, Corella is the life-force behind one happy and healthy suburb. A little closer to home for some than sister venue La Lune Wine Co, Corella emits the same level of excellent eats and wine (with the option to BYO on Wednesday nights!). Come and stay for the aesthetics found in the decor and on your plate, with eats such as kingfish crudo with pickled daikon and green sauce and macadamia butter parfait with cereal and feijoa sorbet blowing your mind (and your Instagram likes out of control).
One Fish Two Fish | Kangaroo Point
Hardly a humble seafood restaurant, One Fish Two Fish swims away from the school of usual neighbourhood fish ’n’ chipperies with a colourful display of creativity. Besides a budding regular menu of Quarter Flounder burgers, kingfish sashimi and seafood risotto, special dinners in collaboration with renowned local chefs, Monday family deals and Sunday fish and bottomless sips give the hood reason to say ‘no thanks,’ to Uber Eats, and to get back to the rewarding tradition of eating out together as a family, or a community. Keep up to date with specials events and deals here.
Billykart Kitchen | Annerley
An old corner shop was transformed into Billykart Kitchen, and the rest is delicious history. The breakfast and lunch menus feature innovative creations such as twice baked cheese soufflé with smoked salmon, cheese fondue and fried egg, whereas a monthly changing dinner menu also wows with fresh, seasonal produce. Sounds a bit better than the leftovers shoved in the back of your fridge, yeah?
Arlette’s Kitchen | Albion
Bespoke French Vietnamese fusion cuisine like you’ve never tasted before, Arlette’s stole our hearts when we first dined there earlier this year and is truly one of the finest restaurants in Brisbane. Yes, we weeped openly when they recently cut back to breakfast/lunch service only, but have found ourselves stumbling back to this house on leafy Albion Road time and time again. Menu highlights include the duck and cognac pate, Vietnamese omelette with crackling pork belly and for lunch – house made gnocchi with creamy walnut and Roquefort sauce. You’re guaranteed to walk out mind-blown and totally crushing on co-owners Ash and Lilly whose service and all round sweetness just adds to the experience (txt us back, plz).
Macho Macho | Ashgrove
Being a Macho Macho fan is a given after just one trip to this loveable local. Beside a banging series of menus (hello plethora of Chinese pork belly steamed buns with pickles and kewpie mayo, and crab, lemon and chilli linguine), Live Music Thursdays will keep you both quenched and thirsty for more.
Wooden Horse Restaurant & Bar | Clayfield
Welcome home. Wooden Horse is set to ride straight to the top of your neighbourhood foodie faves with offerings including $15 Pizza Tuesday, Steak Night Wednesday and BYO wine on school nights! Pop a cork, grab your fork, and dig in to whatever your heart desires across both the special and contemporary menus.
Citron | Wilston
A zesty modern Asian restaurant awaits in Wilston! Citron will stun you with its soft shell crab bao, soy glazed fresh ocean trout with pickled cucumber, spiced avocado, daikon and ponzu, and crispy skin duck with spiced roast potatoes, pak choy, mandarin star anise sauce and pineapple chilli jam. Literally bursting with flavour.
Sasquatch Bar | Chermside
Deals of monstrous proportions can be found at Sasquatch. Don’t be afraid to grab on to 2-4-1 Tapas Tuesdays, Wing it Wednesdays (which will nab you a kilo of chicken wings with any pint for just $25), and succulent Pork Roast Sundays. The (not so) regular menu features an interesting mix of Asian and American eats, which will come in handy for families with different tastes. Ready, yeti, go.
Nana & Da’s | Kedron
Here’s one for our morning people (give me your energy). Nana & Da’s is Kedron’s budding breakfast and brunch hotspot, featuring the likes of thyme, garlic and buttered mushrooms on rye with spinach and haloumi, broad bean and pea smash with mint, lemon ricotta, prosciutto and poached eggs, and slow cooked beef brisket on a bagel with chilli jam, fennel slaw and wedges. Das good eatin’.
Pavarotti’s | Carseldine
Mamma Mia! Pavarotti’s will trasporto your tastebuds straight to Italy with hearty, classic meals. From the spinach and ricotta cannelloni to the best spaghetti bolognese you’ve ever eaten, this spot will leave you hungry for more. Carbs are friends, and food.
La Quinta | Bulimba
When someone says “La Quinta for dinner?” you say “mexcellent choice.” Bulimba’s Mexican food baby is pumping out the likes of tacos, chimichangas, burritos, nachos, fajitas, and enchiladas – and our bodies are READY. If you’re bringing the entire gang along for a bite, fiesta style group menus have you covered.
Neighbourhood Pizza | Kenmore
Welcome to a slice of the good life. Neighbourhood Pizza will top off your doughlightful eats with premium meats and fresh veggies, and we just know our vegan pals will go nuts for the sesame cheese option! Choose your fave pizza and grab fab sides including the OG garlic bread, calamari, and caprese salad. It doesn’t get much better than that.
Martha St. Kitchen | Camp Hill
Hello Martha, hello father, here I am in, Camp… Hill. Martha St. Kitchen has a boss dine-in and takeaway menu, so you can expect to lose your mind over prosciutto pizza, and tagliatelle with anchovy, parsley sauce, chilli, fennel and rocket. She’ll be your new favourite neighbour.
Honey, we’re home.
