The Catbird Seat Bistro | East Brisbane
We’re calling it – this may just be the most intimate restaurant in all of Brisbane. Nab a table with your beau in this cosy spot and you can lock eyes with each other over house cured charcuterie and fresh oysters with a glass of champagne, with attentive staff who’ll take care of everything – including suggesting which wine to order so you don’t have to pretend you’re an expert.
Salon de Co | Spring Hill
Nothing kills the mood faster than coming home after a romantic meal to three-day old pots in the sink, or to find the bedroom has been redecorated with bae’s entire wardrobe (she had nothing to wear). Save yourself the fight and keep that loved-up feeling going with a night at The New Inchcolm Hotel & Suites! not only is the hotel itself gorgeous, the food at Salon de Co is to die for!
Libertine | Petrie Terrace
One look at Libertine’s chandelier-adorned ceilings and elegant surroundings and you’ll soon be in a romantic mood, before you even sit down at your table for two. While you get lost in each other’s eyes over pan-Asian dishes like oven-roasted scallops with herb butter or BBQ duck a l’Orange and cherry crepe, woo your date with a handcrafted cocktail – though maybe skip the ‘My Bitter Ex’ and go for the ‘Her Madge-isty’ instead. Better still, make it a Monday night date and you can get a 5 course shared banquet and a movie ticket from the Palace Cinemas for $35pp!
Tartufo | Fortitude Valley
There’s something about Italian food that goes hand in hand with romance. Blame it on all those years watching Lady and the Tramp. Tartufo’s classic Italian menu and red leather booths will transport you and your plus one to the streets of Naples, minus the inevitable holiday squabbles. With plates sourced from seasonal, local produce designed to share and wines to match, you’ll be thanking Disney for the date night inspiration. Ti amo!
Saké | CBD
If you love Japanese fare and long strolls along Eagle Street Pier, Saké is date night perfection. Their reputation as Brisbane’s best Japanese restaurant will impress even the hardest to please date – if not, well, you’ve got a difficult future on your hands. Pair something tasty from their binchotan charcoal grill with Saké’s extensive sake, cocktail and wine menu and you’ll soon be saying ‘Miso good at romancing!’
Popolo | South Bank
You’ll be torn between getting lost in your date’s eyes and the sweeping city skyline views from your grassy spot out the front of Popolo as you tuck into one of their lush picnics. You could dine in the restaurant of course, but why would you when you could lounge on the grass, feeding each other cheesy balls (innuendo intended) of arancini, crispy calamari and freshly made pizzas.
Aria | CBD
If your idea of romance is traditional white table cloths and silver service (not Tinder notifications and splitting the bill), Aria is as romantic as they come. So romantic, in fact, they inspire at least one wedding proposal a week! While you might not be ready for that, you can at least commit to a stunning dinner from their a la carte menu, plus at least one loved up selfie with the river views in the background.
Alchemy | CBD
Brisbane may not have the Eiffel Tower or the Taj Mahal, but we do have the Story Bridge, and we think that’s still a pretty romantic view, especially since you’ll be too busy looking into your date’s eyes to take in the view from Alchemy’s floor to ceiling window anyway. Whether you’re looking for an a la carte evening or something new and exciting with the degustation menu, the scallops with smoked pancetta with lentils, marjoram, Jerusalem artichoke foam and porcini crumbs is guaranteed to secure you another date, no matter how awkward the conversation.
LONgTIME | Fortitude Valley
Sure, Fortitude Valley may not be the first place you think of for romance but good things come to those who venture down laneways. LONgTIME Restaurant & Bar is the perfect late night spot to showcase your smooth moves, with plenty of dim corners to cosy up in (but not too cosy – please, we’re eating). Just don’t start a fight over the last piece of coconut and turmeric lobster curry, or you may not make it until dessert.
There’s no denying it, food (and booze) is definitely the fastest way to the heart when it comes to romantic things to do Brisbane!
