Must-attend 2019 food festivals

Let’s. Get. Festy.

In between failed diets and cereal set on fire, we love fuelling up at food festivals before the inevitable happens again. Can’t go hungry if you’re stuffed full of cheese and ice cream, right? (what an ungodly combo though).

Here’s a round-up of 2019’s must-attend food festivals around Queensland, giving you plenty of time to plan a road-trip or hunt down the nearest Lime scooter.

We’ll see you in a very zesty second.

Mould | May 19

All that glitters is Mould. Hide your lactose intolerant kids and bring your cheese-loving wife to this year’s celebration of foodie gold. Over 50 cheeses from more than 12 producers will emit an aroma only true dairy-block connoisseurs will appreciate, presented in the form of stringy dishes, wedged in a burger or served with fine artisan bread. Cheese without wine? It would be a fragrant sin. Luckily, you’ll be able to knock back everything from wine to whisky, with the ticket price actually including a free glass of vino alongside plenty of cheeky cheese tastings. Gouda gracious, get tickets here.

Effervescence | Date TBC

We are gonna clean UP with champagne showers at Effervescence. Although the date is yet to be confirmed, we can happily say that the ultimate ode to champers will be back for 2019. With plenty of space to play at Spicers Hidden Vale, you can expect to pick your poison – whether that be skipping down a champagne trail or taking a lazy long lunch, and leaving with one very chatty Uber ride home. Does he need to know your life story? Well he gon’ know. Stay tuned for more info as it rolls through.

Good Food and Wine Show | October 25-27

Good things come to those who wait. If you can hang on til October, rest assured you’ll be thoroughly satisfied with the highly anticipated annual Good Food and Wine Show. With celebrity chefs around every corner, and enough kombucha, curry and kitchen accessories to flood your own kitchen with flavour and organisation, it’ll be one jolly good show. Stay tuned to the website for ticket sale dates.

Pinotpalooza | October 13

As Titus Andromedon would say – pinot noir, caviar, Myanmar, mid-sized car. This gorgeous burgundy wine will be dripping across six lucky countries in 2019, and we just so happened to make the pick. Over 250 wines from more than 100 wineries will be at your fingertips, making for one dangerously delicious day out. Drink responsibly, mmk? Get tickets here.

Brisbane Ice Cream Festival | 23-24 March

The sweetest festival in town has been scooped up for another year, and we’ve got our spoons at the ready. Rounding up the best local ice cream, sorbet and gelato moguls in town, you’ll be tucking into ice cream bao, gelato hot dogs (throwback to last year and fingers are CROSSED) and some savvy vegan nice-creams in no time.

Indie Spirits | May 26

Sah indie. Lefty’s is heading in the right direction, with Indie Spirits set to be up and pouring this May. This epic tasting festival lets you lock lips with some ingenious independent sips, with samples, snacks and seminars all included in your ticket purchase. Over 30 exhibitors will be showcasing more than 100 craft spirits, with master distillers on hand to chat about the world of indie spirits. Wanna get tickets? That’s the spirit! Do so here.

Rosé Revolution | Date TBC

Drinking rosé for a good cause? It doesn’t get much peachier than that. Rosé Revolution will be back for round three in 2019, choosing a new charity, ensuring that buckets of money get put towards it, and that you’re well taken care of with buckets of rosé and prizes. Keep those rose-coloured glasses on and you’ll be seeing a date announcement soon.

Sunnybank $2 Food Trail | June 22

Need we say more? Start digging around your couch, pockets and piggy banks because a couple of bucks will go a very long way at the Sunnybank $2 Food Trail. On June 22, more than 40 restaurants and 130 banging bite sized menu items will be at your will. Stay well fed and properly entertained with live acts and kids activities (the perfect distraction for them while you go eat more food). Find out all the tasty deets here

Curated Plate | August 8-11

The Sunny Coast’s newest culinary festival is about to make its mark in the foodie world. Curated Plate will bring unique artisan culture to life, allowing you to have a taste of organic and sustainable practices amidst a sea of locally crafted plates and produce. They’re gonna bring a hella lot to the table, with the full program being released this March. Bookmark that website and get ready to feast.

Fish Lane Festival | May 11

Behind the hustle and bustle of Melbourne Street, Fish Lane swims through life pretty steadily with a plethora of hole-in-the-wall eateries with a dedicated local following. Once a year, Fish Lane Festival takes over to celebrate all of South Brisbane’s best bites, opening up to a world of hidden food, art, and culture.

Beer InCider Experience | March 9

You might wanna lay down for this one. Beer InCider is the ultimate mini-music festival mixed with pure hoppiness. Headlining this year is DMA’s, with plenty of other fan faves including Something For Kate and Alex the Astronaut. Go for the music and stay for the beer and cider, because barrels of Brisbane’s best will roll into one convenient location. The foodie lineup is yet to be confirmed, but last year saw the likes of Netherworld’s Hellmouth Diner and food truck legend Mac from Way Back take to the field. What a pitcher perfect day out. Get tickets here.

Is it too much to hope that there’ll be enough portaloos at the drink-based festivals? Asking for a weak-bladdered friend.
